One of our favourite New York outfits Wet are back this week with a fresh single, ‘You’re Not Wrong’. From the outset, listeners are immersed in bopping rhythms and Kelly Zutrau’s sweet vocal, which travels up and down the scales for a series of catchy lines. The best of these has to be the chorus, ‘And when I think about it, baby, / And I’ve been thinking hard and long, When I think about it, baby, / You’re not wrong’ - complete with soulful warbles. Meanwhile, Zutrau’s band members Marty Sulkow and Joe Valle provide some serious grooves with stop-start basslines, bright piano chords, playful maracas and organic, bouncing percussion. It’s quite different to the tracks of 2015’s Don’t You LP, with a look into the possibilities of Wet in this retro light and we’re looking forward to where this new direction will take the trio next. - Hannah Thacker
